About the Lakewood Museum

The first museum opened was in the original Lakewood High School auditorium in 2004. However it was closed when the Board of Education sold the School Administration building. The museum then consisted of permanent displays, presentations of past events, sponsored Victorian teas and also Victorian performances, and community and regional events.

After many years trying to find a permanent home, the Lakewood Township Committee has worked hard with the Lakewood Historical Society and Lakewood Heritage Commission to provide a residence for the museum.

In 2012 the Lakewood Historical Society was able to use Kuser Hall in the Pine Park section of Lakewood to provide its services. The Lakewood Historical Society’s goal is that the Museum will be considered to be a community business.

Kuser Hall, in Pine Park, is a former school built in 1927. Its many classrooms, science laboratories and a large assembly room make this building the ideal place for a museum. Moreover, the building has a historic nature and many valued period items are displayed in it.

The Lakewood Historical Museum offers all people a space to show their heritage’s involvement in the town’s development. The goal is to create a permanent museum space within Kuser Hall in order to share their stunning collection and provide the community the benefits of knowledge linked to Lakewood’s unique history!
