Lakewood Township is a town in Ocean County, in the state of New Jersey. The population of the town is about 106,300 residents. Lakewood Township is the seventh most populous municipality in New Jersey and the most populous in Ocean County.
The fast-growing population of the township from the year 2000 to 2010 is a result of the town’s Orthodox Jewish and Latino communities. The township has a total of 2.5.08 sq. mi (64.95 km2) of land and 0.40 Sq. mi (103 km2) of water. The area ranks 165th out of 566 in the state density ranking and the 5th out of 33 in the county.
Lakewood Township is the next biggest yeshiva abode outside Israel. The Beth Medrash Gohova has a student population of about 6,500.
The township borders are Brick Township, Jackson Township, Toms River Township, and other nearby municipalities. Lakewood Township has up to four different lakes. The lakes are man-made and not natural, which means it was created manually. The lakes include Lake Carasaljo, Lake Manetta, and Lake Shenandoah, which are by the south branch of the Metendock River. Lake Wadill is the fourth lake and it is situated on Kettle creek.
Lakewood Township uses the township form of governance under the New Jersey Municipal. The committee of the Township is made up of five members. These five members are elected on a three-year term of office. The election of the vacant seat usually occurs in the November General Election.
