Lake Shenandoah County Park and sports field complex is located at 660 Ocean Avenue and 300 New Hampshire Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. The county park spans over 143 acres of land.
About the Park and Sports Field Complex
The Lake Shenandoah County Park and Sports Field Complex has over 227 acres of tall oak and pine trees that surround the 100-acre trout-stocked lake. There are fishing piers available at the park, a boat launch (electric motor) picnic areas, a playground, a basketball court, soccer, and softball fields.
The active recreation at the county club includes a basketball court, a hiking Trail (2-mile loop) soccer fields (reservation only) softball fields (reservation only). Field reservations are made from Mondays to Friday between the hours of 9 AM to 3 PM.
Passive recreation includes a walking trail, picnic area with tables, handicapped accessible area, fishing, boat launch, and a beautiful scenery view of the lake. The waters are trout stocked which is accessible for fishing piers. It is a perfect spot for freshwater fishing. Fishermen at the lake will find varieties of fish species in the waters. Species of fish caught at the lake include catfish, Muskie, Largemouth Bass, Bream/ bluegill, and crappie Herr. The fishermen at the lake are expected to follow the rules and regulations laid at the dam strictly.
Fishing contests are sometimes held at Lake Shenandoah. Both adults and children can register and participate in the contest. Prizes are awarded for winners of both the adult and children contests. There are also free kids fishing instruction, a free kids casting contest, and door prizes. The opening hours at the lake Shenandoah County Park are 6:30 AM to 8 PM daily from Monday to Sunday.
The origin of the name of Lake Shenandoah
The name was gotten from the United States Navy Dirigible USS Shenandoah which was built in the year 1923 at Lakehurst Naval Air Station. Its first flight was on the 4th of September 1923. The USS Shenandoah on its 57th flight across North America crashed in Ohio in 1925 due to bad weather.
