It is available to the public every second Sunday of every month from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and also every Monday and Thursday from 1:30 to 4:00 pm.
History of the Society
The Squan Village Historical Society was formed in 1986, during a meeting of the centennial committee of Manasquan. It was agreed that the Squan Village Historical Society would be initiated as the administrative base for the centennial celebration. A constitution and by-laws were formed and this was the birth of the Manasquan Historical Society.
This newly formed organization had its first meeting in borough hall in December 1987. Former officers of the centennial committee still had their positions in the society and committees were formed. Afterward, the society was given the go-ahead to stay in sections of the Manasquan Railroad Station but unfortunately, the society was left with no place to stay as the building they were allocated to, got burnt in march, 1996.
However, after a year, through the benevolence of Mrs. Sara Reed. The society was able to purchase a place at 105 South Street. The place was originally a one-room home owned by John Bailey before it was taken over by Sara Reed, hence the name Bailey-Reed House Museum came to be what the place is now referred to.
As of 2017, the society celebrated its 30th anniversary. The main goal of this society is to bring together people that have the same interest in history and also in collecting, showing, and preserving written records and other historical materials that revolve around the borough of Manasquan, New Jersey, and its nearby areas for study and research purposes.
