Shark River Park is a suburban park located at 1101 Schoolhouse Road, Wall. It occupies more than 900 acres on either side of the townships of Tinton Falls, Neptune, and Wall in coastal New Jersey. It is part of the Monmouth county park system in New Jersey.

Shark River Park spans an area of 946 acres and is open from 7 am to 9.pm daily, all year. It also has three parking spaces; the Main Road entrance also referred to as the Schoolhouse Road entrance, Gully Road entrance, and finally the hillside parking area.

Initially, the parkland was established in the year, 1961 and was used for staging construction when the Garden State Parkway was being built; it, therefore, became the first park owned by the county. The park is divided by the Shark River and that is how its name came to be. The park also serves as a place where elementary school children come on field trips to search for fossils of prehistoric shark teeth in the river gravel.

Activity at the park

A lot of activities and events are held in the Shark River Park, some of them include fishing; you need a fishing permit for this, however, you are allowed to fish for largemouth bass, shiners, and black crappie. Anglers over the age of sixteen are required to have a state fishing license. You can also have picnics; there are areas that can be reserved for group picnics with your family, co-workers, or just a bunch of friends.

There are also playgrounds where children can enjoy climbing, swinging, and sliding. A shelter building is available where there are facilities for shuffleboard and horseshoes and equipment can also be signed out for free. There also hiking trails of about 8.3 miles for the hikers. The hiking trails are like seven in number and they all have different levels of difficulty.

Visitors can enjoy grills available on a first-come, first-serve basis. They are also advised not to leave anything of value in their cars and also to tell any park ranger of any suspicious activity in the parking areas. Make your way to the Shark River Park now and enjoy some fresh air while admiring the beauty of nature and even have a picnic.

The park is just minutes away from other interesting places, just to mention some:
