The park was created in 1940 and is known for its renovated 19th-century ironworks, Allaire village which is on the park premises. The park is an example of podzolic soil and this is as a result of its location in the coastal plain geographic region of New Jersey. This soil type is quite acidic and has a high concentration of iron particles. The park also hosts a tourist railroad; a narrow-gauge train ride called the pine creek railroad.

The park opens every day from 8 am to 6:00 pm while the park office opens from 8 am to 4:30 p.m. one-third of Allaire state park lies south of the Manasquan River and is on the northern fringe of the pinelands hence supporting a pine forest community.

Bird watchers will find different kinds of birds here, from spring migrating warblers to other songbirds and a variety of breeding birds like owls, vireos, etc. c. There are also a lot of events to attend at the Allaire State Park, an example is the Invasive strike force intermediate surveyor workshop and so many others.

The park also offers picnic facilities like charcoal grills and tables where you can spend quality time with friends and family and have a light meal if you choose. There are also playgrounds where you rest assured that your children will have a fun time and not feel left out in adult conversations and activities. There are also sanitary facilities.

The river of Manasquan flows eastward through the park and seasonal canoe rentals are offered by private sellers off-site. The river of Manasquan is categorized as fresh water and people are welcome to fish, however, a fishing permit or license is required. On weekends in the summer, the park charges an entrance fee.

There are many other spots in the area, just to mention some: Shark River Park, InfoAge Science and History Museums, Quail Ridge Golf Course, Monmouth Jet Center, and more.
