History

John C. Bartlett, Jr. County Park at Berkeley is located at 399 Brennan Concourse, Bayville, NJ 08721. The park sits on a scenic peninsula jutting out into the Barnegat Bay waters.

The park was devastated by Hurricane Sandy but was redeveloped and has been resurrected with new facilities and amenities to award-winning results. Before it was ravaged by the hurricane, the park was formerly known as Berkeley Island County Park and has been a central piece of the community since the 1930s by giving residents and visitors to the community access to the Barnegat Bay on the coast.

The park was renamed after its resurrection and became John C. Bartlett, Jr. County Park, to recognize the distinguished service of Ocean County Freeholder John C. Bartlett Jr. who devoted 39 consecutive years of service to the residents of the county.

Activities

John C. Bartlett, Jr. County Park at Berkeley Island is a unique feature of the county and a recreational haven for exciting activities and attractions. After the redevelopment, the park was reinforced with breakwaters and shoals and now has an amazing shoreline that is filled with native plants creating a habitat for birds, shellfish, fish, and mammals.

The location of the park means it has the best views of the calm waters of Barnegat Bay in Ocean County. The park has picnic areas with picnic tables and barbecue grills for cooking and fish cleaning stations available for a nice day outdoors.

At the entrance to the park, there are boat rentals for those who want to go boating, crabbing, and fishing from the 100’ pier. The park’s crabbing and fishing pier are one of the most popular in Ocean county.

There is a playground and a family-oriented spray park where children can join in the fun, horseshoe pits, bocce courts, and covered pavilion that can be rented/reserved for events and take up to 120 people. The grounds of the park are well maintained, beautiful, and exceptionally neat with the restrooms very clean too. 

John C. Bartlett, Jr. County Park at Berkeley Island is open from dawn to dusk daily and either to enjoy alone or relax with friends and family, the park is much beloved by the thousands who live in, the residents, and those who visit each year.
